All workshops will be in the CUB Junior Ballroom.
10:10-11:00 a.m. | Sound Bath & Soft Welcome
A Sound Bath is a deeply-immersive, full-body listening experience that intentionally uses sound to invite gentle yet powerful therapeutic and restorative processes to NURTURE YOUR MIND AND BODY. Sponsored by the Student Entertainment Board (SEB).
11:10 a.m.-noon | Workshop: What is Recovery?
Through artwork and personal stories, a panel of students from Cougs for Recovery will explore the question, “What is recovery?”. The working definition of recovery is a process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live self-directed lives, and strive to reach their full potential (SAMHSA, n.d.). At the same time, students today have their own understanding about the practice of recovery, especially in terms of socializing and having fun, reducing harms, and being academically successful. Join us for a student-led discussion about recovery, mental health, substance use at WSU.
12:10-1:00 p.m. | Lunch & Keynote Speaker
In August 2015, Andy Song came to Pullman, WA to start his first year at Washington State University. Join him on his journey through his time at WSU and learn about his struggles with mental health and how it affected his time at WSU. Also, learn about how he was able to find community to help him navigate and find his path towards positive mental health, graduation and where he is now.
1:10-2:00 p.m. | Workshop: The Social Justice of Self-Care
Amy Sharp, Director of the Women*s Center discusses the importance of practicing self-care, the difference between self-care and self-comfort, traps of the wellness industry and ways to support community care.
2:10-3:00 p.m. | Workshop: Sustaining Radical Care with Loving Communities
We live in a time of where loneliness and isolation is endemic, but college and life don't have to be this way. Our society values and centers individualism, leaving many without the tools for how to build and sustain radical, loving communities. Through this workshop, we will deconstruct normative expectations around what it means to be in community and discuss alternative approaches towards radical care.
3:20-4:45 p.m. | Student and Professional Staff Panel
Hear from other students and professional staff about their mental health journey and the resources they use. Attendees are invited to ask questions and share their thoughts.
4:45-5:45 p.m. | Social Hour
Connect with the presenters and panelists from the symposium. Ask questions and learn more about the work being done on campus.
Sundiver Ca
After the symposium, join the Student Entertainment Board for the Sundiver Ca concert!
The concert is Wednesday, October 4 live in the CUB Auditorium. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Performance starts at 7:00 p.m. The performance is free for WSU students and $5 for the general public.
