Cougar Leadership Program

Project Lead - Portfolio Program

About The Program

PROJECT LEAD is a leadership portfolio and certificate initiative. PROJECT LEAD provides a vehicle for students to learn "about and for leadership" and, most importantly, to chronicle their experiences and learning as leaders at Washington State University.

PROJECT LEAD is a self-paced, experiential-learning program that enables particpants to:
  • Learn the foundations of leadership.
  • Engage others in the community.
  • Act as responsible citizens and leaders.
  • Develop one’s self and others

Consistent with the design and elements of the Cougar Leadership Program, PROJECT LEAD is:
  • Self-paced. While there are several guideposts and benchmarks to assist participants to finish the program in a timely manner, there is no formal requirement to complete the program within a specified period of time.
  • Values-driven. The program features the topic of values as a fundamental element, but is also driven by the educational objectives and values of the program, the department, and the university; which include critical thinking, teamwork, diversity, and a global perspective.

At the conclusion of the program, particpants will:
  • Be able to articulate individual values and how those values influence effectiveness as a person and as a leader.
  • Be able to articulate personal strengths, weaknesses and style as a leader and be able to articulate what has been done to improve on personal weaknesses and utilize personal strengths when working with others.
  • Be able to articulate fundamental leadership concepts and theories.
  • Have a leadership development plan that will serve as a guide for many years.
  • Have developed a LEAD e-Portfolio to chronicle activities and achievements as well as what has been learned by participating in those activities.
  • Receive a certificate of completion, invitation to the year-end ceremony, materials that can continue to be use long after the program, and more.
